Sri Lanka and the last Ice age

Greetings ! Thank you for reading the first posting on rumtumbleweed
This web-space will host a collage of short articles about a wide range of 'things' that are not often spoken about, or a little less known. These 'things' may include technology, sciences, experiences and opinions, general fascinations and random thoughts that conjure up in the writers minds. There'll be plenty of variety from an ambiverted perspective. Reader opinions on the articles and topics are most welcome.

As a young lad, I spent my formative years in the little island known as the pearl of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka. If one were too pay close attention to Social studies and History syllabi taught in Schools back in the 90's, one would realise that it covers early human settlements in North eastern India/Pakistan and then leaps to the arrival of Vijaya in Sri Lanka. Non of the text book that dealt with Sri Lankan history (the great chronicles) addresses how the pre-Vijayan people came to be in Sri Lanka. It was because of this reason I was delighted when I stumbled upon an interesting clip on YouTube which shows the melting ice from the last Ice age affecting the region around Indian subcontinent and Sri Lanka (Documenteary - 12000 year  old city of Lord Krishna - Dawaraka, India). Following is a screen capture from the documentary;

South Asia - 11000 BC [source]

More specifically, the screen capture is from the graphical computer simulated model of the sea level rise at different stages of the last ice age (Created by Dr. Glenn Milne from the Department of Geology of Durham University). A quick Google search would tell you that the last Ice age ended approximately 11,700 years ago.If you have ever wondered if Sri Lanka was a part of the Indian subcontinent the answer is a resounding Yes !
